Zhang Chaoyang, founder, chairman, and CEO of Sohu, has stated that artificial intelligence can never replace genuine human interaction and authentic content. Zhang believes that information acquisition and communication between people are distinct, and AI currently cannot substitute for human connection.
Zhang likened AI-generated content to plastic or artificially fertilized produce, describing it as visually appealing but lacking substance, much like fertilizer-boosted tomatoes that look good but taste bland. He emphasized that in an era of information overload, humans require genuine interaction, making environments for authentic connection even more valuable.
Addressing concerns among content creators about AI, Zhang suggested that excessive reliance on AI tools can diminish a person's capacity for independent thought. He cited research indicating that overdependence on AI may lead to a decline in active thinking skills.
Zhang urged individuals to maintain a "proportion of thinking" in the age of AI, warning against passive information consumption that could degrade cognitive functions. He stressed that active exploration and deep reflection remain irreplaceable core human competencies.
