Solid-state cooling materials address data center heat loads

Passive Edge Tech is introducing new materials and cooling modules to address the growing heat issues in data centers. The company's engineered solid-state cooling materials and thermal modules aim to harness waste heat and conserve energy.

Traditionally, data center cooling infrastructure consumes a significant portion of energy, up to 40 percent. With the rise of AI servers, heat loads have increased dramatically, straining existing cooling systems. Passive Edge Tech's approach focuses on developing materials capable of storing cooling capacity, utilizing ambient cold, such as nighttime temperatures, or low-cost electricity during off-peak hours.

The company's product line includes phase-change materials and solid-state thermal modules. A notable innovation involves nano-encapsulated coolants integrated into industrial coatings and polymers. These materials are designed for safety and efficiency, preventing leakage and offering high energy density compared to conventional solutions like water.

Passive Edge Tech has already demonstrated significant traction. The company maintains a production capacity of 1,000 tonnes of phase-change materials annually and has deployed solutions in over 1,000 edge compute nodes in China, achieving up to a 30% reduction in cooling energy. Furthermore, the company has reduced cooling costs by over 20% for a district cooling operator in Asia.

The company is currently raising a US$5 million pre-A round to build upon a previous angel investment. Passive Edge Tech aims to become a key player in the global cooling market, which is projected to triple by 2050.
