Solidigm Considers Building NAND Fab in the United States
SK Hynix subsidiary Solidigm is reportedly considering the construction of a large-scale NAND flash memory production facility in the eastern United States. The company has not yet finalized any plans.
Solidigm, a wholly-owned subsidiary of SK Hynix, is exploring the possibility of building a major NAND flash memory production line in the eastern United States, according to industry reports. The company is reportedly discussing details such as site selection, product lines, and mass production timelines.
Solidigm inherited its NAND and SSD business from Intel. Previously, Intel held production facilities in the US through the IMFT joint venture with Micron. Following Micron's full acquisition of IMFT and Intel's sale of its business to SK Hynix, Solidigm's current manufacturing base is in Dalian, China, with its US operations primarily focused on headquarters and R&D.
Establishing a fabrication plant in the US would enhance Solidigm's global manufacturing resilience. It would also enable shorter logistics routes to supply major US technology companies, particularly for AI data center storage needs.
"We are reviewing various options to enhance our business competitiveness," Solidigm stated. "However, we have not yet finalized any plans."
The potential US facility could significantly bolster Solidigm's production capacity and market position as it competes in the global semiconductor industry. Further details are expected as the company progresses with its evaluations.
