Sony brings AI graphics upscaling to standard PS5

Sony is launching a new AI-powered graphics upscaling technology for the standard PlayStation 5 console. The new tech, named Quick Spectral Super Resolution (QSSR), is part of Sony's Project Amethyst initiative, developed in collaboration with AMD.

According to Sony, the PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) used in the PS5 Pro remains the company's top-tier solution for upscaling. QSSR will not match PSSR's performance, as the standard PS5 lacks dedicated machine learning silicon. Consequently, QSSR is expected to provide upscaled resolution closer to 1440p.

The goal of this technology is to enhance in-game visual quality and performance without requiring new hardware. QSSR aims to leverage existing processing power more effectively through artificial intelligence.

Specific details regarding the release schedule and technical specifications for QSSR have not yet been fully disclosed. Sony anticipates that the technology will improve the gaming experience across various titles in the future.
