Sony Camera Model WW261362 Receives SRRC Certification

A new Sony camera model, codenamed WW261362, has passed SRRC certification. The model is expected to be positioned in the mid-to-high-end segment, potentially as a successor to the α7S III.

Sony has secured SRRC certification for a new camera model identified by the codename WW261362. Chinese tech publication IT之家 reported that the certification indicates the camera supports Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth, and runs on a BIONZ XR2 or newer processing platform.

Sony typically categorizes its product registrations geographically. Entry-level and some mid-range models are often registered by "Sony Wuxi," while cinema and broadcast cameras are handled by "Shanghai Guang." High-end models are usually registered by "Sony Japan." Based on this distinction, Sony Alpha Rumors suggests the WW261362 is a mid-to-high-end mirrorless camera rather than a cinema or broadcast unit.

Considering Sony's current product lineup, the α7S III was released in July 2020. With a typical update cycle of four to five years, a successor would be due. While models like the α7C II, α7C R, α1 II, and α9 III are more recent, the α7S III is one of the older full-frame cameras in Sony's active range, making it the most likely candidate for a refresh.

Speculation suggests the new camera might feature an approximately 16-megapixel stacked sensor, similar to the one in the Sony FX5 cinema camera. It is expected to include a 9.44 million-dot OLED electronic viewfinder and employ the BIONZ XR2 processor, along with Sony's latest in-body image stabilization and autofocus systems, as seen in the α7R VI. The camera is anticipated to support still photography with a mechanical shutter. No confirmed details regarding release date, pricing, or the final model name have been announced.
