Sony FX5 Cinema Camera: Initial Deliveries Commence

Sony has announced the commencement of initial deliveries for its new FX5 full-frame cinema camera. The camera, priced at 32,000 yuan (approximately $4,400 USD), offers professional features including Open Gate recording, previously exclusive to Sony's high-end VENICE series.

Demand for the FX5 has exceeded expectations, potentially leading to delivery delays for later orders, extending into September or October. The camera features a 16.6-megapixel full-frame stacked sensor and the BIONZ XR 2 image processor, incorporating advanced AI-based autofocus capabilities similar to the Alpha 7R VI.

The Open Gate function allows for recording across the entire 3:2 sensor area at 5K resolution, providing significant post-production flexibility. This enables lossless cropping for vertical formats or reframing without compromising image quality. The FX5 supports up to 120 frames per second in 3:2 Open Gate and offers internal RAW video recording options.

Further enhancing its professional capabilities, the FX5 boasts an upgraded five-axis optical image stabilization system with double the rotational range compared to previous models. It also includes advanced exposure monitoring tools like False Color, waveform display, and vectorscope, alongside existing features such as histogram and zebra patterns.
