Sony launches $5,899 gold-plated Walkman MP3 player
Sony has announced new Walkman portable media players, with prices ranging from $1,899.99 up to $5,899 for a gold-plated model.

Sony has introduced a new line of Walkman portable media players, with prices starting at $1,899.99 for the NW-ZX900 and reaching $5,899 for the gold-plated NW-WM1ZM3.
The devices are clearly targeted at the audiophile market. All three models feature Sony's DSD (Direct Stream Digital) Remastering Engine, which upsamples standard PCM audio to an 11.2MHz DSD stream, aiming for a more analog-like sound.
A mid-range option, the NW-WM1AM3, is priced at $2,999.99 and is nearly identical to the WM1ZM3, excluding the gold plating.
With these new high-end Walkman players, Sony continues its strategy of offering premium portable audio solutions for discerning listeners.
