Sony PS Vita Gains New Life Via Xbox Cloud Gaming
A developer-created application, GreenVita, now allows Sony PlayStation Vita owners to stream Xbox Cloud Gaming titles. This enables playing modern games on the discontinued handheld console.
The discontinued Sony PlayStation Vita is experiencing a resurgence thanks to a community-developed application called GreenVita. This native client, created by Day-OS developers, allows users to stream Xbox Cloud Gaming services directly to their modified Vita consoles.
GreenVita enables the streaming of Microsoft titles, including "Halo Infinite" and "Forza Horizon 5," leveraging the PS Vita's hardware H.264 video decoding capabilities and VitaSDK. However, the application requires a modified PS Vita with VitaShell installed and an active Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription for Xbox Cloud Gaming.
The project is still in its early stages, and the PS Vita's limited 2.4GHz Wi-Fi can present performance challenges. Recent updates to version 0.1.8 have focused on improving streaming stability, reducing frame drops and visual artifacts, and enhancing response times.
This development offers a cost-effective way for players to access contemporary games without purchasing new hardware. By repurposing older devices, gamers can experience modern titles through cloud streaming, extending the usability of existing technology.
