A key feature of this update is the activation of enhanced PSSR (PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution) image quality settings by default for PS5 Pro models, aiming to provide sharper and clearer visuals.
PSSR is Sony's AI-driven upscaling technology, utilizing machine learning to analyze and reconstruct lower-resolution images into higher-resolution ones on a frame-by-frame basis. This process is designed to improve visual fidelity without significantly increasing the GPU's rendering load, potentially enabling simultaneous 4K resolution and 60 frames per second in supported games.
The update ensures that even games compatible with older PSSR versions can benefit from the enhanced quality. Users have the option to disable this setting through the console's display and video output options. The update also introduces features such as speaker identification in voice chats and a "Community Activities" widget to highlight trending and popular games.
Further adjustments include changes to Bluetooth functionality management in certain scenarios and general performance and stability optimizations for the system software. These improvements collectively aim to enhance the overall user experience on the PlayStation 5 platform.
