Sony PS6 Memory and Storage Costs Reportedly Exceed $680
New leaks suggest that the memory and storage components alone for the upcoming PlayStation 6 console could cost over $680, indicating a potential rise in console pricing.
The cost of memory and storage components for Sony's upcoming PlayStation 6 console may exceed $680, according to recent hardware leaks. A source identified as KeplerL2 shared figures on the NeoGAF forum indicating that these two elements alone represent a significant material cost.
This figure does not include the costs associated with the console's APU, cooling system, or power supply, making the total component cost substantially higher. Previous estimates for the overall bill of materials had ranged from $760 in March to $960 by July, though those figures encompassed more parts.
The PS6 is reportedly slated to feature GDDR7 memory, potentially with a 160-bit bus width and up to 40GB capacity. Industry-wide supply constraints and increased demand for DRAM and NAND flash memory, particularly from AI data centers, are cited as the primary drivers for the rising component prices.
Sony has not yet released any official pricing information for the PlayStation 6. However, if component costs remain elevated, the console's retail price could significantly surpass that of the PS5, with projections suggesting a price point potentially reaching $1,000.
