Sony has announced the launch of its new FE 100-400mm F5.6-8 OSS super telephoto zoom lens for full-frame cameras. The lens is scheduled to become available in mid-August 2026, with a retail price of 5499 yuan (approximately $760) in China.

The lens covers a focal range from 100mm to 400mm and weighs approximately 654 grams, emphasizing a lightweight design suitable for travel photography, wildlife, and event shooting. Optically, it features two ED (extra-low dispersion) elements and two aspherical elements, designed to deliver excellent image quality throughout the zoom range.

As a first-party super telephoto lens, it is engineered to maximize the performance of Sony's mirrorless camera bodies. It supports continuous autofocus (AF-C) and high-speed burst shooting of up to 120 frames per second. The lens is also compatible with teleconverters for extended reach.

For stability, the lens incorporates an optical image stabilization system that works in conjunction with the camera's in-body five-axis stabilization. This new model is notably lighter and significantly more affordable than Sony's previously released FE 100-400mm F4.5-5.6 GM OSS (SEL100400GM), which weighed 1395 grams and retailed for around 18900 yuan. The introduction of this lens aims to provide a more accessible and portable telephoto option for photographers.
