Sony Interactive Entertainment has de-listed a significant amount of promotional material for the PlayStation 5 version of Grand Theft Auto VI. This decision has sparked speculation, coinciding with a strong backlash against the company's evolving policies regarding physical game releases.

Initially, Rockstar Games and Sony heavily featured the PS5 version of the game, with Sony's platforms showcasing extensive related advertisements. However, within a week, these promotional assets were removed. Some players speculated that Rockstar requested the removal in response to widespread dissatisfaction with Sony's shift away from supporting physical disc releases.

A more logical explanation is that the promotional campaign was scheduled to conclude around July 3rd. Nevertheless, the timing of the material's removal has coincidentally fueled controversial theories circulating on social media. PlayStation's mobile app has reverted to older icons, and game banners have vanished from the PS5's main interface.

The move by Sony occurs as player discontent over the company's digital-first strategy escalates. Starting January 2028, Sony will cease selling new physical game discs for PlayStation. This policy change has ignited protests from collectors, physical game retailers, and even some political figures.

Despite the temporary reduction in promotional content, it is anticipated that GTA 6-related materials will reappear on Sony's official channels as the game's launch approaches.
