Sony rolls out Android 17 update for Xperia 10 VIII and VII

Sony has released the Android 17 update for its Xperia 10 VIII and VII smartphones, though the devices lack several key features present in the full version of the OS.

5 November 2026

Sony has begun the rollout of Android 17 for the Xperia 10 VIII and VII models. The update introduces interface personalization options, including new wallpaper and clock designs, as well as the ability to customize icon shapes. The quick settings panel has also been refined, allowing for more granular control over tile arrangement and display size.

Functional enhancements include a more robust screen recording tool, which now allows for app-specific recording alongside simultaneous capture of internal device audio and microphone input. These updates are aimed at improving utility for users recording tutorials or gaming sessions.

However, the rollout comes with hardware-imposed feature limitations. Owners of the Xperia 10 VIII and VII will not have access to cross-platform file sharing, the updated AI camera assistant, or the desktop mode included in Android 17. Separately, Sony confirmed that it has abandoned plans to update the Xperia 10 VI to Android 17, citing storage configuration constraints.
