Sony to Integrate Anime and Games on PlayStation 5
Sony will launch a dedicated Crunchyroll Hub on PlayStation 5 in Spring 2027, integrating anime content, game adaptations, and the Crunchyroll app.
Sony is deepening the integration between gaming and anime on its PlayStation 5 platform with the upcoming launch of a dedicated Crunchyroll Hub. The new center is set to debut on the PS5's main interface in Spring 2027, bringing together anime series, game-based anime adaptations, and the Crunchyroll streaming application.
PlayStation President and CEO Hideaki Nishino announced the initiative at Sony's first Crunchyroll Anime Future Forum. The hub aims to make Crunchyroll a seamless part of the PS5 experience, capitalizing on the significant overlap between anime and gaming fan bases.
Alongside this, Sony has launched Crunchyroll Storyworks, a new division focused on producing anime and live-action adaptations in collaboration with Japan's creative ecosystem. Tohru Iokibe from Sony Pictures Entertainment will lead this new unit.
Sony acquired Crunchyroll in 2021 for approximately $1.175 billion. While Crunchyroll has been available as a standalone app on PS5 since 2020, the new hub is intended to provide a more unified discovery and access point for fans of both mediums.
