SOO Green and ONE Nuclear Energy explore transmission of nuclear power to PJM

SOO Green HVDC Link and ONE Nuclear Energy (Nasdaq: ONEN) have entered into a non-binding letter of intent to assess the feasibility of transporting nuclear energy across interregional power lines. The partnership aims to leverage SOO Green’s high-voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission infrastructure to connect nuclear generation sources to the PJM Interconnection, the regional transmission organization serving several U.S. states.

The proposed framework focuses on utilizing SOO Green’s transmission corridor, which is designed to run primarily along existing rights-of-way, such as railways. By minimizing land-use conflicts associated with new transmission builds, the companies aim to streamline the integration of firm, baseload power into a grid increasingly reliant on intermittent renewable sources.

This agreement marks a step toward addressing capacity constraints within the PJM market. As electricity demand from data centers and industrial electrification rises, grid operators face pressure to secure reliable, carbon-free baseload energy. The evaluation will determine if the HVDC technology can effectively bridge the distance between nuclear generation sites and the high-demand regions within the PJM footprint.
