Soulart Launches Station VR Base Station for Full-Body Tracking

South Korean technology startup Soulart has announced the upcoming launch of Station, a new device aimed at enhancing virtual reality (VR) experiences through full-body tracking. The company claims the device will use local machine learning and an NPU (Neural Processing Unit) for motion recognition.

The Station's primary feature is its single-base station design, functioning much like a camera. It aims to enable full-body tracking without requiring users to wear any additional sensors. Soulart states a single unit can cover an area up to 50 square meters with a tracking refresh rate of up to 120Hz.

While a single Station unit is designed for full-body motion capture, Soulart suggests that using multiple units will yield improved tracking accuracy. This implies that achieving stable and comprehensive tracking might necessitate the purchase of two or even three devices, increasing the overall cost.

Furthermore, Soulart confirmed development of standalone support for Valve's Steam VR platform, with plans shared on social media. If successful, Station could allow users to play VR games with full-body tracking in standalone headset mode, reducing reliance on a connected PC.

The product is currently in its early stages, and its final pricing and actual tracking performance require further validation before a wider release.
