SoundCloud Enables Direct Music Sales for Artists

SoundCloud, the audio streaming platform, has introduced a new beta feature that permits artists to sell music directly from their profiles. This functionality eliminates the need for artists to direct fans to third-party services like Bandcamp and Beatport for purchases.

The feature aims to provide listeners with a more direct way to support the musicians behind their favorite tracks. SoundCloud is not taking any commission from these sales, ensuring that all revenue goes directly to the artists. This model contrasts with competitors.

For comparison, Bandcamp charges a commission of 10-15 percent on sales, and artists on Beatport receive approximately 50-65 percent of their sale price. SoundCloud's approach intends to maximize artist earnings from direct sales.

The beta feature is now live, with the platform having over 250,000 artists linked to more than 2.4 million tracks already utilizing SoundCloud.
