The app allows users to tap on pictures or phrases, and You Speak vocalizes the words aloud. It is intended for nonspeaking autistic individuals, people with speech disorders, and adults who have lost speech due to stroke or brain injury, as well as their support network of parents, teachers, and speech-language pathologists.
You Speak is available on iPhone, iPad, and Android devices. Source Marketing developed it to provide an affordable and easy-to-manage tool that families and schools can set up and share collaboratively. The company self-funded the app's development, reflecting its commitment to community needs.
The app offers features such as customizable vocabularies, natural-sounding text-to-speech voices or recorded familiar voices, and separate profiles for multiple users on a single device. It functions offline, requires no account, and collects no user data.
