South Bronx mural recognized as tallest in the United States

A 29-story mural titled "Un MAR de Gente / From Every Shore" now spans the side of a building at the Morrisania Air Rights campus in the South Bronx. At 307 feet tall, the artwork by Néstor Omar García, known as Angurria, is currently the tallest mural in the United States.

The project was managed by the nonprofit ArtBridge and consulting firm FOGA, with funding from the Public Housing Community Fund and MAC Viva Glam. Unlike many large-scale murals that use projection tracing, the size of this building required the artist to use virtual reality (VR) mapping to scale the design across the facade. A three-person team completed the work using swing scaffolding over a 22-day period.

The content of the mural was determined through six community workshops, where residents selected the color palette and thematic elements, including depictions of intergenerational knowledge and local neighborhood culture. According to project organizers, the collaborative process was intended to foster a sense of ownership among the local population.
