SpaceX acquires spectrum licenses to compete with mobile carriers
SpaceX has acquired low-band spectrum licenses, a move intended to position its Starlink Mobile service as a major U.S. mobile carrier.

SpaceX has acquired a portfolio of low-band spectrum licenses, a strategic move the company states will enable its Starlink Mobile service to operate as a major U.S. mobile carrier. The acquisition positions SpaceX to directly challenge established providers like T-Mobile, AT&T, and Verizon.
Upon approval from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), SpaceX plans to deploy a new architecture. This will integrate its existing satellite-to-mobile constellation with a terrestrial mobile network, creating a hybrid service.
The acquired licenses encompass up to 14 megahertz of paired spectrum in the 800 MHz band. SpaceX claims this frequency range will allow Starlink Mobile's signal to penetrate buildings more effectively.
This development signifies SpaceX's intent to expand its telecommunications footprint beyond satellite internet and enter the competitive mobile carrier market in the United States.
