SpaceX partners with Qualcomm to build terrestrial network for Starlink Mobile
SpaceX has signed a multiyear agreement with Qualcomm to develop the network infrastructure required to compete with major U.S. mobile carriers.

SpaceX has entered into a multiyear partnership with chipmaker Qualcomm to provide the network technology for its Starlink Mobile service. The deal focuses on developing terrestrial infrastructure, including base stations, to supplement SpaceX’s low-earth orbit satellite broadband network.
Qualcomm will supply its Dragonwing cellular hardware and software to support the rollout, which is scheduled to begin next year. This marks a significant move into 5G infrastructure for Qualcomm, while providing SpaceX with the capacity needed to compete with established carriers like Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile. Starlink has become a primary driver of SpaceX's revenue, and this terrestrial expansion is central to its strategy of offering direct-to-device voice and data services.
To facilitate this expansion, SpaceX has recently been acquiring spectrum portfolios and exploring potential acquisitions within the wireless sector. While the company intends to establish tens of thousands of cell sites, it has yet to announce partners for tower management or details on the physical construction timeline for the network.
