SpaceX Plans $100 Billion Spaceport in Louisiana

SpaceX has announced plans for a significant expansion in Louisiana, with the company intending to invest up to $100 billion in developing a major spaceport. Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry confirmed on Tuesday that SpaceX will commit the substantial sum towards building Starship factories and launch pads in the state's coastal regions.

The project, dubbed "Starbase Louisiana," aims to replicate and scale up operations from the company's existing Starbase facility in Texas. The goal is to establish a self-sustaining spaceport featuring propellant production, power generation, deep-water shipping capabilities, vehicle processing facilities, and an on-site airport.

This investment follows months of speculation regarding SpaceX's interest in a sprawling parcel of land along Louisiana's Gulf Coast. The location offers ample space for multiple launch towers and provides access to methane propellant crucial for fueling the Starship rocket.

Gwynne Shotwell, President and Chief Operating Officer of SpaceX, has confirmed the scope and versatility of the planned facility. The initiative is expected to significantly enhance the production and launch capacity for the Starship program.
