SpaceX Plans $40 Billion Fundraising for Nvidia AI Chips

SpaceX is planning to raise $40 billion, primarily for procuring Nvidia AI chips. The significant initiative is reportedly led by Apollo Global Management and includes bank loans and corporate bonds.

6 October 2026

SpaceX, the space exploration company led by Elon Musk, is planning to raise $40 billion in a funding round largely dedicated to purchasing advanced AI chips from Nvidia, according to the Financial Times. This move signals a substantial increase in SpaceX's investment in artificial intelligence infrastructure.

The fundraising is expected to be structured through approximately $10 billion in bank loans and $30 billion in investment-grade corporate bonds. Private equity firm Apollo Global Management is reportedly set to lead the transaction, facilitating the sale of these bonds to a wide range of investors. Pacific Investment Management Company (Pimco) is also among the lenders in discussions. The entire deal is anticipated to be completed by 2027.

This large-scale financing effort reflects a broader market trend where significant capital is being directed towards data centers, semiconductors, and other infrastructure essential for AI development. SpaceX's commitment to Nvidia's technology further deepens their partnership, especially after Musk publicly praised Nvidia's AI platforms earlier this year.

SpaceX has previously encountered challenges in raising substantial debt, with some investors expressing concerns over the company's growing liabilities and capital expenditures. Bonds issued by the company earlier this year have faced selling pressure in the secondary market. The company's historically limited financial disclosure has also played a role in investor hesitancy. Apollo has a history of leading large credit facilities, including a $35 billion transaction for Broadcom processors.
