SpaceX reportedly eyes acquisition of Boost Mobile
SpaceX is reportedly in talks to acquire Boost Mobile from EchoStar. The potential acquisition aims to secure terrestrial network access to support a hybrid satellite-cellular service.

SpaceX is currently exploring the acquisition of wireless carrier Boost Mobile from EchoStar. The move is seen as a strategic effort to bolster the company's hybrid cellular-satellite network, providing the terrestrial connectivity necessary to compete with major U.S. wireless providers.
SpaceX has spent the last several years expanding its telecommunications footprint. Following a $17 billion investment in wireless spectrum last year and existing partnerships with providers like T-Mobile, the company continues to seek ways to overcome limitations in building-penetration and consistent mobile access.
Reports indicate that CEO Elon Musk held discussions with EchoStar chairman Charlie Ergen regarding the deal in October. If successful, the acquisition would mark a significant shift for SpaceX, moving the aerospace firm closer to becoming a primary competitor in the retail telecommunications market alongside industry incumbents like AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon.
