SpaceXAI Open-Sources Grok Build Programming AI Agent Tool

SpaceXAI, the artificial intelligence endeavor associated with Elon Musk, announced on July 15th the open-sourcing of its Grok Build programming tool, making the source code available on GitHub. Grok Build is an AI-powered assistant designed to streamline the end-to-end software development process, from planning and coding to testing and committing code via Git.

The company stated that open-sourcing the code is the most direct method to establish robust and reliable frameworks. This allows users to examine the tool's internal workings for context building and tool dispatch. The open nature also facilitates exploration and extension of the framework using custom agent skills or plugins.

Grok Build is now capable of operating in a fully local-first mode, enabling users to compile it themselves and direct its operation primarily through a configuration file. The released source code encompasses key areas such as agent execution chains, code interaction tools, and the user interface, including features for plan review and inline diff viewing.
