Spokane Wildfires Destroy Structures, Force Evacuations

A series of major wildfires in the Spokane area of eastern Washington has destroyed an estimated 600 structures and forced thousands of residents to evacuate. As of Monday morning, the fires were reported to be 0% contained.
The blazes, collectively referred to as the Spokane Complex Fire, comprise three distinct fires that have burned over 7,700 acres. Spokane Mayor Lisa Brown stated that the fires represent "the worst natural disaster our region has faced."
Nearly 900 firefighters and support personnel were engaged in efforts to control the fires. The cause of the fires is under investigation, and no injuries have been reported.
