Spotify Expands AI Remix Project with Merlin Partnership
Spotify announced it is expanding its AI-powered remix and covers project. Merlin, representing over 30,000 independent labels, has joined Universal Music Group in backing the new paid tool.

Music streaming service Spotify has partnered with Merlin, a global digital music agency representing independent labels, to expand its upcoming AI-powered remix and covers project.
Merlin, which acts on behalf of more than 30,000 independent labels and distributors, will support Spotify's initiative alongside Universal Music Group. The new paid tool aims to allow fans to create AI-generated covers and remixes of participating artists' music.
A key feature of the project is the requirement for artists to opt-in. This ensures that artists involved receive credit and are compensated for the use of their music in AI-generated content.
The partnership with Merlin is expected to broaden the scope of music available for the tool, incorporating a wider range of independent artists and labels into Spotify's AI music offerings.
