Spotify Feature Gives Users More Control Over Recommendations
Spotify has launched a new feature called Taste Profile, allowing users to directly influence music and podcast recommendations. The feature is rolling out to Premium users in the U.S.

Spotify is enhancing user personalization with its new Taste Profile feature, which grants listeners greater control over the recommendations they receive. The service aims to allow users to actively shape their content suggestions, leading to a more tailored listening experience.
Through the Taste Profile, users can provide specific text-based instructions to the platform. These prompts can guide Spotify towards particular genres, like requesting "more country music," or suggest finding artists similar to existing favorites, such as "find new artists that sound like Lizzo." Users can also specify podcast interests or exclude certain songs and playlists from their recommendations.
The Taste Profile, now available to U.S. Premium subscribers over 18, was previously tested in New Zealand. Spotify first introduced the concept in March at SXSW, emphasizing its ability to offer a more easily personalized platform. The company stated the feature aims to capture new dimensions of taste beyond listening patterns, including current interests and habits.
This move towards greater user control over recommendations follows other recent updates from Spotify. The company has introduced features for better playlist organization and editing, as well as enhanced parental controls for child accounts to manage recommendations.
