Spotify Makes Parent-Managed Accounts Available to Free Users

Spotify announced on Wednesday that it is bringing parent-managed accounts for children to its free tier. The feature is now available to users in the U.S., U.K., Australia, France, Germany, and the Netherlands.

The "Managed Accounts" feature, first introduced in 2024, allows parents to control their child's listening experience through a separate account. This ensures that children's music choices do not affect their parents' personalized recommendations or their annual Spotify Wrapped recap. Children can add songs to their favorites and create their own playlists.

This expansion to free users reflects a broader trend among major tech companies to provide parents with greater control over their children's online platform usage, partly in response to increasing regulatory scrutiny.

Parents can restrict playback of explicit content and specific artists. Video playback is disabled by default, and interactive features are also limited. Spotify plans to roll out Managed Accounts to more countries soon.
