Spotify rolls out AI-powered conversational music assistant

Music streaming service Spotify has introduced a new AI-powered conversational feature that allows Premium subscribers to interact with the app to discover music, podcasts, and audiobooks. This expansion of Spotify's AI initiatives aims to provide a more personalized and interactive listening experience.

The feature is currently rolling out in beta to U.S., Irish, and Swedish Premium users aged 18 and above, supporting English on iOS and Android devices. Spotify stated that the technology combines proprietary AI with models from multiple providers to best suit specific tasks, and user feedback will be crucial for refinement.

This conversational AI builds upon Spotify's existing AI tools, including its AI DJ, which offers personalized audio streams in an AI voice, and playlist-generation features powered by user prompts. The new assistant enables users to ask questions in natural language about songs, artists, genres, or delve deeper into podcast and audiobook content.

Users can engage with the assistant through text or voice commands within the app's home and now playing screens. Beyond discovery, the AI can also discuss a user's listening history, provide insights into their music preferences, and suggest related content based on past listening habits.
