Music streaming platform Spotify announced policy changes regarding AI-generated artists. Beginning in mid-September, music from these "AI Personas" will no longer be recommended to users.
The service will apply an "AI Persona" badge to artist profiles that do not represent a real individual. Spotify is allowing artists to disclose their AI status starting immediately, but the company stated it will not rely solely on self-identification.
Spotify will employ both human review and AI tools to determine if an artist's name and image appear to be photorealistic AI-generated identities. If Spotify identifies an artist's identity as artificial, their music will be removed from recommendation algorithms.
This move aims to clarify artist origins and ensure authenticity on the platform. Users will gain a clearer understanding of who is behind the music, allowing for more informed listening choices.
