SPOV created medical displays for Doctor Strange film

Design studio SPOV was responsible for creating the medical graphics featured in the early part of the film Doctor Strange. The movie follows neurosurgeon Stephen Strange, who loses the use of his hands in a car accident and seeks to regain his purpose through mystical powers.

SPOV's task was to produce realistic medical displays showing the character's groundbreaking neurological work prior to the accident, as well as the surgical procedures to repair his hands. The studio, known for its work in video games, began its film ventures after working on Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation.

For visual design, the Cinema 4D software was utilized, including its sculpting tools for creating detailed anatomical models. X-ray effects were achieved by inverting a Fresnel shader and employing a Proximal shader in conjunction with Boolean operations to reveal layers of skin and bone.

Additionally, Cinema 4D's Hair tools were used to generate point cloud effects, and Insydium's X-Particles plugin was used for modeling arteries. SPOV focused on creating visually convincing medical representations that also served the film's narrative.
