Squamous Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer Market Projected for Growth

The market for squamous non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is projected to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 7.9% between 2026 and 2035, according to a report by Roots Analysis. This expansion is fueled by progress in molecular biology and tumor immunology, leading to the development of novel targeted therapies.

Advancements have enabled treatments that impede cancer growth by altering oncogenic driver mutations. The success of approved therapies such as Keytruda®, Opdivo®, and Portrazza® has increased developer interest, positioning them as promising disease management options for this aggressive form of lung carcinoma.

Currently, over 85 drug candidates are under investigation for treating metastatic or advanced squamous NSCLC patients. The majority of these therapies are in early-stage development, with intravenous administration being the most common route. Five biologics and one small molecule have received approval to date.

Major pharmaceutical players are significantly involved, with over 34 companies active in this domain, primarily based in North America. The number of clinical trials has seen a substantial increase, growing at a 56% CAGR between 2017 and 2020. Partnership activity has also surged, with a focus on product development and commercialization agreements.
