Squarespace announces 19 percent workforce reduction
Website building company Squarespace is cutting approximately 19% of its global staff as part of an organizational restructuring effort.

Squarespace has confirmed that it is laying off approximately 19% of its global workforce, a move impacting roughly 300 employees. A representative for the company stated that the restructuring aims to simplify operations and sharpen strategic priorities to better position the business for future growth.
The web hosting industry is currently undergoing a period of intense transformation driven by the rise of generative AI. Automated tools that allow users to generate website designs through simple prompts have gained significant market traction, with competitors like Wix and AI-focused startups attracting substantial capital. Squarespace has attempted to pivot toward these technologies with the introduction of its Blueprint tool and the upcoming launch of its AI-native platform, Forma.
Founded in 2004, Squarespace went public in 2021 with a $10 billion valuation. Following sustained challenges in maintaining public market enthusiasm, the company transitioned back to private ownership in 2024 through a deal with a private equity firm.
