SSC Space contracts Firefly Aerospace for two launches from Sweden

SSC Space and US-based space and defense technology company Firefly Aerospace have signed a contract for two launches of the Alpha rocket from Sweden's Esrange Space Center. This agreement marks a significant step in establishing orbital launch capabilities from mainland Europe.

The launches are targeted to take place in 2028. The missions will serve Swedish national security customers as well as additional commercial rideshare customers. This contract builds upon a long-term partnership.

Esrange Space Center, owned and operated by SSC Space, has historically focused on suborbital flights and sounding rockets. The move towards orbital launches represents a strategic expansion for the facility.

Firefly Aerospace's Alpha rocket is designed to deliver small to medium-sized payloads into orbit. The agreement with SSC Space positions Firefly Aerospace to capitalize on the growing market for space services from European launch sites.
