Stadler to supply 13 FLIRT Evo trains to TPF for CHF 117 million
Manufacturer Stadler has secured an order from Fribourg Transport Authority (TPF) for 13 FLIRT Evo multiple units valued at CHF 117 million. The new trains will modernize the operator's regional fleet.

Swiss train manufacturer Stadler has received an order from Fribourg Transport Authority (TPF) for 13 four-car FLIRT Evo multiple units, valued at CHF 117 million. The new trains are set to modernize TPF's regional rail fleet and enhance passenger services.
The FLIRT Evo trains are designed for regional transport, featuring frequent stops and shorter journey times. Each 73.5-meter unit will accommodate 164 seated passengers and a total of 369 passengers. Key features include wide doors for efficient boarding and alighting, a top speed of 160 km/h, and strong acceleration and braking capabilities.
Accessibility and passenger comfort are prioritized. The trains will offer step-free entrances, dedicated spaces for wheelchairs, and accessible toilets. Modern passenger information systems and power sockets will also be installed to improve the travel experience. The order leverages options and terms previously negotiated by Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) in a 2021 tender process, enabling TPF to secure favorable conditions.
The first FLIRT Evo train is scheduled to enter commercial service in December 2028, with subsequent deliveries expected approximately every two months. The introduction of these new units will facilitate the phased withdrawal of TPF's existing Domino trains. TPF's standard-gauge fleet will eventually comprise eight FLIRT and 13 FLIRT Evo trains, in addition to ten metre-gauge FLIRT units operating on the Montbovon–Palézieux line.
Serge Collaud, Director General of TPF, stated the new trains offer comfort, modern technology, and high capacity to meet increasing passenger numbers. Christian König, Deputy Sales Manager at Stadler, expressed confidence that the trains will contribute to more attractive regional transport in the Fribourg canton.
