Standard Chartered introduces tokenized deposits in Hong Kong
Standard Chartered has launched tokenized deposits for corporate clients in Hong Kong, leveraging the HKMA’s EnsembleTX infrastructure.

Standard Chartered has deployed tokenized deposits in Hong Kong, targeting corporate treasury and investment operations. The initiative utilizes the EnsembleTX infrastructure provided by the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) to facilitate digital financial workflows.
The system allows eligible corporate clients to execute real-time fund transfers between participating banks, utilizing wholesale central bank digital currency for 24/7 settlement. Unlike stablecoins, which are typically managed by non-bank issuers, these tokenized deposits remain on the bank's balance sheet and are subject to existing banking regulations.
Live transactions have already been conducted by firms including China AMC, Finloop, and PantherTrade. Standard Chartered is collaborating with infrastructure provider Fireblocks to integrate banking capabilities into the platform, with HashKey also participating in the project. This move aligns with the HKMA’s broader efforts to develop a regulated ecosystem for tokenized assets in Hong Kong.
