Stanford Study: AI Impacts Entry-Level Jobs Most
New research from Stanford University indicates that AI is causing significant job losses for younger workers in entry-level positions across certain fields.

Updated research from Stanford University economists suggests artificial intelligence is disproportionately affecting entry-level jobs, leading to significant losses for younger workers in some sectors. The findings indicate that older workers appear largely unaffected by these AI-driven employment shifts so far.
The study, titled "Canaries in the Coal Mine? Six Facts about the Recent Employment Effects of Artificial Intelligence," released in its August 2026 edition, revises and updates previous findings with new data. The researchers observed that the trends identified last year regarding entry-level employment have persisted and expanded.
Specifically, employment levels for workers aged 22 to 25 in occupations deemed most "AI-exposed" are now 19 percent lower compared to their peers in less exposed fields. This gap has widened from 13 percent in the previous year's analysis.
The study highlights a growing concern about the impact of AI-driven automation on the younger workforce and the potential for widening employment disparities based on age and job exposure.
