Starlight Investments completes structural phase of Basildon residential development

Starlight Investments has reached the topping-out milestone for The Mercantile, a major build-to-rent development in Basildon. The project consists of three mid-rise residential buildings containing 492 apartments, alongside approximately 16,000 square feet of commercial and retail space.

Strategically located near the Basildon railway station, the development aims to provide housing with easy access to London and the wider South East region. The site features amenities including a gym, yoga studio, coworking spaces, and various communal leisure facilities, reflecting a trend toward service-integrated rental properties.

The Mercantile is positioned as part of the ongoing redevelopment of Basildon's town center. Municipal authorities noted that the project is intended to support the local economy by increasing population density and demand for local services.

Development partners, including Orwell Real Estate, confirmed that the project remains on track. Following the completion of the structure, the focus will now shift to internal finishing and the integration of the planned retail units.
