Startup Employees Lose Billions Annually Due to Stock Option Misunderstanding
Equitybee CEO Oren Barzilai states that startup employees are losing tens of billions of dollars annually because they do not understand their stock options.

Startup employees are annually forfeiting stock options valued at an estimated $30 billion to $100 billion, primarily due to a widespread lack of understanding regarding their value and exercise process. This significant financial leakage within the startup sector has been highlighted by Oren Barzilai, CEO and founder of Equitybee.
Barzilai describes the stock option market as "opaque" and emphasizes that many employees do not grasp the value of the equity they have earned. He likens the situation to workers losing income they have already earned but cannot claim due to a lack of knowledge.
The issue came to Barzilai's attention during his experience building his previous company, Tapingo. While offering stock options to employees with the promise of shared success, he observed that staff did not fully comprehend the significance or potential worth of these benefits.
Motivated by this realization, Barzilai founded Equitybee. The company aims to educate and assist startup employees in better understanding and leveraging their stock options, ensuring they can capitalize on their company's growth.
