State Street Completes ₹580 Crore Investment in Groww AMC
Global asset manager State Street has finalized a strategic ₹580 crore investment in Groww's mutual fund arm, Groww AMC, after securing necessary regulatory approvals.

State Street Investment Management has completed its strategic ₹580 crore investment in Groww AMC, the mutual fund division of Indian fintech platform Groww. The deal, initially announced in January, received all required regulatory approvals and grants State Street a 23% economic interest and 4.85% voting rights in Groww AMC. The transaction valued the asset management business at approximately ₹2,500 crore.
The investment comprised ₹381 crore for the purchase of existing shares and approximately ₹198 crore for the issuance of fresh shares to State Street. Following the transaction, Groww AMC will remain a subsidiary of its parent, Billionbrains Garage Ventures, but will no longer be wholly owned. The disparity between economic interest and voting rights means State Street benefits financially from its stake but has a capped influence on shareholder votes, previously stated to be limited to 4.99%.
The companies intend to strengthen their collaboration in product development, distribution, and access to international markets. Groww AMC will leverage State Street's expertise in areas such as indexing, ETFs, systematic investing, and portfolio construction. This partnership aims to help Groww AMC expand its passive investment offerings and evolve into a comprehensive asset management platform.
Groww, which entered the asset management space by acquiring Indiabulls Housing Finance's mutual fund business in 2023, is seeking to diversify beyond its core stockbroking operations. The company also plans to establish a platform in GIFT City to offer Indian investors access to global investment products. This move aligns with Groww's recent financial performance, which saw a 94.3% year-on-year increase in net profit for Q1 FY27.
