STCH Modernises Apparel Manufacturing with AI and Factory OS

Bengaluru-based STCH is aiming to transform the apparel industry by building a technology-led contract manufacturing platform. The startup combines artificial intelligence (AI) with a factory operating system (Factory OS) to help fashion brands accelerate product development, produce smaller batches, and replenish inventory based on demand.

Traditionally, apparel manufacturing has been a slow process, taking four to five months from design to finished garment. This leads to significant inventory investment before a product's sales success is certain, a challenge exacerbated by shortening fashion cycles.

STCH's approach begins at the product development stage, utilizing AI models to analyze fashion trends and customer demand to identify successful products. Their FabricGPT system recommends suitable materials based on cost, performance, and sustainability, drawing data from textile mills, testing labs, and manufacturers.

On the factory floor, Factory OS integrates workflow software with cameras and IoT devices for production tracking, quality monitoring, and enhanced visibility. STCH claims to have reduced product development timelines from nearly five months to approximately 45 days, enabling production closer to demand and reducing capital tied up in inventory.

STCH is also investing in fabric research and development, working with textile and fiber manufacturers to co-develop tailored materials balancing performance, cost, and sustainability. This expertise is compiled into a library of fabric "recipes" utilized by FabricGPT.
