A recent survey of 3,800 Steam players, conducted by GameDiscoverCo, indicates a divided opinion regarding the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into video games. The findings were reported on July 8 by IT Home, a technology news outlet.

The survey found that a significant portion of players, 31%, expressed dissatisfaction with AI in games. Specifically, 23.3% stated they "don't particularly like it," and 8.1% declared they "would never consider playing" games that utilize AI.

Conversely, 43% of respondents accepted AI in games, with 23.4% stating they "don't mind at all" and 19.6% finding it "acceptable." A substantial 25.6% remained neutral on the topic of AI in gaming.

The investigation also highlighted player behavior towards AI disclosures. Nearly 90% of surveyed users reported checking these disclosures before purchasing a game. Valve has mandated that all Steam developers disclose their use of AI, enabling players to make informed decisions.

GameDiscoverCo commented that the surveyed users are likely more engaged than the average player. However, the results offer insight into current player sentiment around AI in game development, a topic expected to evolve alongside the technology itself.
