Automaker Stellantis is recalling a total of 2,157 hybrid Jeep vehicles in China due to a potential fire hazard. The recall is prompted by a contamination issue during the engine casting process, which could lead to engine failure and, in extreme cases, loss of power while driving or a fire in the engine compartment.

The affected vehicles include specific imported models produced between 2023 and 2024. Specifically, 1,178 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe models manufactured from July 19 to October 9, 2023, are subject to the recall. Additionally, 979 Jeep Wrangler Hybrid vehicles produced from September 5, 2023, to March 26, 2024, are also included.

Stellantis (Shanghai) Automotive Co., Ltd. has filed the recall plan with China's market regulatory administration. The company will provide affected vehicle owners with a free software update for the engine control module and conduct an engine running test. If an engine bearing failure is detected during the test, the entire engine assembly will be replaced at no cost.

This measure aims to ensure vehicle safety and mitigate potential risks for drivers and others on the road.
