StepFun Reportedly Splits Model and Agent-Device Businesses
Chinese AI firm StepFun is reportedly reorganizing around two strategic lines: foundation models and agent devices. Its phone business is being moved to a separate company.

Chinese artificial intelligence company StepFun is reportedly undergoing a significant restructuring, separating its foundation model business from its agent device operations. The company's phone division is expected to be spun off into a new, distinct entity, while the original StepFun will continue to focus on its core model development.
This strategic shift aims to streamline operations and potentially unlock greater value from its distinct technological arms. The separation has not yet been officially confirmed by the company.
In parallel, StepFun is reportedly assembling an international commercialization team. This team is tasked with the global rollout of its model Application Programming Interfaces (APIs), with an initial emphasis on its voice model technology. The company envisions its hardware, specifically phones, serving as a direct distribution channel for its AI models in overseas markets.
