STILFOLD partners to develop wing-in-ground drone for Baltic Sea operations

STILFOLD and a consortium of partners are developing an unmanned wing-in-ground craft for surveillance and logistics, funded by Vinnova through 2027.

20 October 2026

STILFOLD has joined forces with a consortium of Swedish partners to develop an unmanned Wing-in-Ground (WIG) craft. The project, backed by the Swedish Innovation Agency (Vinnova), aims to provide rapid logistics and surveillance capabilities tailored for the Baltic Sea region.

The development team includes Petestep and EmbeddedArt Group, with RISE acting as the project coordinator. The initiative leverages STILFOLD's proprietary manufacturing methodology, which allows for rapid design adjustments and decentralized production, aimed at meeting specific defensive and logistical requirements.

Wing-in-ground craft operate by utilizing aerodynamic lift generated close to the surface of the water, theoretically offering the speed of aircraft alongside the payload capacity of marine vessels. The development program is scheduled to conclude in November 2027.
