STL Wins European Patent Dispute Against Fujikura
The European Patent Office's Technical Board of Appeal revoked Fujikura's patent entirely. The decision strengthens STL's position in optical connectivity markets.

Technology solutions provider STL has secured a decisive victory in its European patent dispute with Fujikura Ltd. The European Patent Office's (EPO) Technical Board of Appeal issued a final, binding ruling on June 24, 2026, revoking Fujikura's European Patent EP 3796060 in its entirety.
The decision also resolves the UK patent dispute between the parties in STL's favor. STL's intellectual property, built over decades, comprises a portfolio of 785 patents across major global markets.
This ruling strengthens STL's position in optical connectivity markets, particularly in the UK and Europe. It also highlights the company's global intellectual property capabilities and its ability to vigorously defend its standing in key markets, including North America, Europe, MEA, and India.
"STL deeply respects innovation and Intellectual Property, and we strongly protect our IP positions across the globe," said STL Group CTO, Dr. Badri Gomatam. "This ruling by the EPO's highest appellate body is a powerful affirmation of the strength of our global IP position, the integrity of our R&D and deep technology capability."
