The crash happened when the westbound truck attempted a left turn across the path of the woman's eastbound vehicle. The truck struck the front of her car. Witnesses indicated both vehicles entered the intersection on a yellow light, and police cited the truck driver following their investigation.

Extrication was required for the woman, who was airlifted for emergency medical treatment. Her injuries included skull and facial fractures, as well as a traumatic brain injury. While she has made a near-full physical recovery, cognitive deficits persist.
