Students Unveil Stella Juva Solar-Powered Ambulance Concept

Dutch student team Solar Team Eindhoven has introduced Stella Juva, a concept for the world's first ambulance that runs entirely on solar power. The vehicle is designed to power both the ambulance and its onboard medical equipment, aiming to improve healthcare access in areas with limited infrastructure.

Dutch student team Solar Team Eindhoven has unveiled Stella Juva, a concept aiming to provide sustainable medical mobility. The ambition is to make healthcare accessible in regions where infrastructure and fuel supply are limited.

The Stella Juva is presented as the world's first ambulance designed to operate entirely on solar energy, while also powering all onboard medical equipment. The concept offers an alternative for areas where fuel or electricity shortages currently restrict access to healthcare. The vehicle is officially presented on July 21, 2026.

Solar Team Eindhoven has a proven track record in solar vehicle development, having won the Cruiser Class of the Bridgestone World Solar Challenge in Australia four consecutive times. Their previous projects include Stella Terra, the world's first off-road solar vehicle, which completed over 1,000 km across Morocco.

"What makes this project strong is that we can build on existing expertise from European specialists," said Steven Swinkels, Technical & Event Manager at Solar Team Eindhoven. He highlighted collaboration with local partners like Dutch company Tuningsupply for critical components.

In August 2026, the team plans to conduct field tests of the solar ambulance in collaboration with humanitarian organizations. These tests will aim to demonstrate Stella Juva's capability to support patient care and safely operate medical equipment in locations difficult to reach with conventional emergency services.
