A new clinical study involving active women indicates that astaxanthin supplementation can increase fat burning during moderate exercise. The research observed this effect after participants supplemented with the antioxidant for just two weeks.
According to Behnaz Shakersain, Scientific Affairs Manager at AstaReal AB, the findings suggest the body utilized more fat and fewer carbohydrate stores for energy while performing the same amount of work. "This points to more efficient energy utilization and further supports the potential of astaxanthin in sports nutrition," Shakersain stated.
The study also noted no significant increase in heart rate, blood lactate levels, or perceived exertion among the participants. This suggests that the enhanced fat utilization occurred without a corresponding increase in physiological stress or subjective effort.
